About

I'm Hendri Kurniawan, a technology leader based in Sydney. I've spent 24 years building software and leading teams, and right now I spend my evenings thinking about what AI actually means for the people doing the building.

This blog is where I think out loud. I write about engineering leadership, AI in practice, system design, and the organisational patterns that make software teams work. Not tutorials. Longer-form thinking grounded in real decisions.

Currently at Football Australia, where I look after digital operations across multiple platform supporting over two million customer and fan records. Before that, a decade at NSW Department of Education building and running the program management system that tracked school infrastructure delivery across 2,200 schools statewide. Started in 2002 across startups in Australia and Singapore, then moved through agencies and telecommunications before settling into larger organisations.

Before management, I was a developer. That background means I can work both sides: I understand what engineering teams are dealing with, and I use that to help the business make better calls.

The industry is changing fast. AI is already reshaping how software gets built, and most organisations are still figuring out how to actually put it to work. That's where my focus is right now, though I expect that to evolve as things become clearer. I don't have all the answers. I'm writing through it, and if you're figuring it out too, you're in the right place. The constant: Building software and shipping things that matter.
